Today I’m Thinking | Blog Post #4

Words hold power, a certain vibration. The letters put together in various ways don’t have much power in and of themselves. However, magic can happen when the energy behind the words matches up with the energy flowing through you. So many times, I’ve read a poem or listened to a song and been brought to weeping tears feeling completely understood only to read or hear the same piece later and think to myself, “why did I think this was so special?” The point is that if the words connect with us at the right moment, they will bring great pleasure, deep emotion, and powerful healing. If the words aren’t the right energy for us at the moment, they will just pass through us without much fanfare. Please, read through this collection of heartfelt poems designed to give you strength, nourishment, and deepen your self-care practice. Take what soothes your soul and leave the rest.

Land here, Dear One.

Rest your mind.

Rest your heart.

If nothing else, rest your weary head on this mat until you’re alive enough to keep on.

The invite will always remain.

Just land here.

Anyway you can. Anyway you come.

You are safe here.

There is love,

There is joy,

There is hope here.

Land, Dear One.

Just land.

Land here, Dear One. Anyway you can, anyway you come. You are safe here.

May Love Be

May I feel love,

May I breathe love,

See love,

Taste love,

May I speak love,

In all that I do,

May love be my guide.

May I know love to be the simplest truth,

May I bring love to others,

May I let love settle into my bones,

May I trust love to be right in every situation.

May love be my teacher,

My caretaker,

My friend,

My confidant,

May love be there when nothing else is.

May love be my beginning,

And my end,

May love find my friends,

And my enemies.

May I think, speak, and act from love,

May love engulf my deepest fears,

And swallow my darkest anger,

May I be so enveloped in love’s light,

That I can see no other way.

May I be in love,

May I be of love.

May I be love.

May I know love to be the simplest truth. In all that I do, may love be my guide.

A Love Letter

Dear friend,

I am grateful to have gotten to know you so well over the years.

I know our time together is only temporary, although it seems impossible to think of life without you. We have been through so much, you and I.

It’s an honor to know every part of you so well - to know your deepest desires so intimately.

I know that you are my closest friend and wisest support system.

We have grown together in every way imaginable.

You have been with me to witness my deepest sorrows and highest highs. At every stage of life, we hold hands and carry on together.

While you can’t always meet my demands, you attempt to, and while I don’t always follow your wisdom, I try to. Like all relationships, we’ve had our trials.

Constant companionship can be exhausting. There are days I wish you were something different, something better. There are days I try to ignore you, depriving you of your needs hoping that you’ll change.

So many times, I’ve chosen to see you as the enemy. Uncomfortable in your presence and aggravated by your unwillingness to change to my specifications.

It seems, however, that no matter how I doubt you, deprive you, or ignore you, you stay beside me. Complete in your conviction that we must carry on together.

And so we do. And your conviction, sacrifice, and trust remind me that we are friends. Truest, deepest, birthright companions.

I apologize for all the times I haven’t listened to you. You know so much but speak so softly. Your wisdom can be easy to ignore.

Thank you for carrying me through this life, every day, courageously.

While I often doubt your capabilities, beauty, and purpose, you never doubt mine and work tirelessly through all hours of the day and night to be the best you can be for both of us.

I will try harder to honor you.

To listen.

It’s in both our best interests.

I love you.

Thank you, body. Let’s carry on, together.

Constant companionship can be exhausting, but I will try harder to honor you. To listen. Thank you for carrying me through this life.
